How was OD Sibiu2024?

Author: Echipa OD

On November 12, from 7:00 pm, at the National Operetta and Musical Theater "Ion Dacian", we lived together an evening where stories became bridges between souls, and difficult questions brought us closer to answers. We talked about justice and injustice, the challenges of the world we live in and how each of us can contribute to real change.

Moments of theater, film, poetry, music and storytelling gave way to essential conversations about topics too often left in the shadows: what it means to be a woman in a society that still puts up barriers, how we build community in less favorable environments, about the faces of institutional abandonment and about the limits we need to impose in our personal and professional lives.

Bucharest welcomed us with excitement and openness and showed us once again why these discussions still make sense and how we can only continue to do this together. 500 people listened, resonated, asked questions and showed us that the desire to build a fairer future is alive. The evening ended to the strains of Eyedrops, letting the thoughts settle down and become starting points for a more united, more conscious, more just tomorrow.

On stage:

✨Andrada Cilibiu, about the woman's body as a manifesto of freedom, in a personal story full of vulnerability. Andrada is a feminist activist at the FILIA Center since 2019 and fights for a safe and just society for women and girls.
✨Catalina Uță, with a story about injustice in a rigid system, the desire for change, powerlessness and taking responsibility for one's own failure
✨Eugen Hriscu, on how we have turned an ignored problem - drugs and drug use - into an unjust punishment that is today being applied without any indication that it will make us better
✨Politics up to the minute, with a moment of theatrical dialog in which they clarify why we should care about politics and how these discussions (or lack thereof) affect our daily lives.
✨Florin Râșteiu, on social housing in Otopeni, abuse of power, social discrepancies and all the emotional weight they carry.
✨Georgiana Pascu made more than 400 visits showing a shameful reality for all of us: people living humiliated, suffering and dying a slow death.
✨Linotip, with an impressive moment of contemporary dance
✨Maria Zavate took us through the merry-go-round of experiences that came with buying a home. What was supposed to be a joy became something much more complicated, with a cocktail of emotions ranging from excitement, to shock, to anger, guilt and despair, generated by systems that seem to help no one.
✨Corina Buzoianu turned her deprived childhood into a story of determination and passion. Inspired by her parents and guided by her father's words - "The most important are the children" - she has dedicated her career to educating students.
✨Ana Maria Ciobanu grew up next to a girls' home. The girls grew up, some died, the children's homes were disbanded, but the 500,000 institutionalized children received no reparation or recognition from the state.
✨Matei Sumbasacu and his colleagues at Re:Rise are doing all they can to reduce seismic risk in Romania. In his moment, Matei tells us what happens when we don't treat earthquakes with the honesty and seriousness they imply.
✨Studio Ferentari came with an excerpt from ,,The Chosen One", a show about the world and politics, but mostly about us, our choices and the motivation behind them.
